Safe Walkway for Fairfield students

Fairfield

Fairfield Division is a vibrant estate community of 1200 residents in the outskirts of Talawakelle, NuwaraEliya District. Every day, 150 children from this community must make a challenging journey  down the hill to reach their schools.

The Challenge

The only path from their village to the school is the series of makeshift steps, carved out by levelling the steep slopes. During the rainy season, these steps become dangerously muddy and slippery, turning the daily walk into a hazardous trek. Many children and residents have slipped, stumbled, and struggled on this path – simply trying to access education.

Taking Action

After years of waiting in vain for officials to help, the residents of Fairfield have decided to take matters into their own hands. Their plan: build 220 proper cement steps so that every child and adult can walk safely, no matter the weather.
